We are delighted to welcome your children into the First United Methodist Church Garland family!

We believe church and home should work together to nurture children in Christian growth, and we invite you to become an active participant in helping all of our children become faithful servants of God.

Our goal is to help each child develop a relationship with God that serves as a firm foundation for life. We strive to achieve this by sharing with them ourselves, our stories and the traditions of our Christian faith.

We share these gifts with your children not only through Godly Play in Sunday School, but also in Sunday morning worship, where a special Children's Time and children's bulletin help explain worship and relate the message in terms they can understand.

Our renowned Children's Music Ministry shares a love for making joyful noise to the Lord thru weekly rehearsals, periodic opportunities to sing in worship, and twice annual children's musicals.

Sunday School

Our goal each Sunday morning is to help children understand they are children of a God who loves them.

Sunday School classes are available at 9:30am (between worship services) for children age two thru 6th grade, led by teams of experienced, loving, nurturing teachers trained in the Godly Play curriculum.

Using Montessori principles, Godly Play helps children to explore their faith through story, to gain religious language and to enhance their spiritual experience through wonder and play.

All classes meet on the 2nd floor:

  • Infants, Toddlers and Twos (208)
  • Threes and Fours (220)
  • Kindergarten thru 2nd grade (224)
  • 3rd and 4th grades (222)
  • 5th and 6th grades (227)

A dedicated staff provides childcare for infants thru age 4 during Sunday morning worship services, Sunday School and our weekly (Fall thru Spring) Wednesday WINDOWS gatherings.

Childcare is also available for various church meetings and events. To find out if childcare is available for a specific meeting or event, contact Nora Clines, Nursery Coordinator or the church office.

The Betsy Henderson Mothers Room (119) is also available during worship for mothers needing a private place to feed, change or comfort infants.
