School Supplies for Freeman

School supplies needed for Freeman Elementary in Garland. 

Volunteers accepting donations on Monday, August 24, 9:00am to Noon at the 9th Street entrance to First United Methodist Garland. 

For everyone's safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, please wear a mask or face covering over your nose and mouth and observe social distancing as much as possible. 

To save time and volunteer manpower, please bring one or more backpacks packed with the following: 

  • notebook paper
  • spiral notebook (70-page capacity) 
  • one-inch binder
  • pencils, colored pencils and pencil bag
  • crayons and markers
  • ruler
  • scissors

Construction paper and manila paper also needed in separate bag. (Will not fit in backpack.) 

Food for Austin Street

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, First United Methodist Garland continues to support its quarterly breakfast commitment to the homeless served by Austin Street Center in Dallas.

Though we are prohibited from serving breakfast for safety reasons, we are still collecting and delivering food for Sunday morning, August 30. Donations needed include hard-boiled eggs, sandwiches, fruit, breakfast bars and bottled water.

If you wish to make a donation, please plan to deliver it to the church parking lot at 6:00pm on Saturday, August 29.

Serving Others

First United Methodist Garland is involved in local, regional, national and international efforts to aid the hungry, the homeless and those impacted by natural disasters through funding, collection and donation of food, personal hygiene, education and relief supplies, and 'hands and feet on the ground.'

Local Mission Partners

  • Austin Street Center in downtown Dallas provides emergency shelter and related services to the homeless in a compassionate, faith-based community. 

    This includes 'whole person' therapeutic programs that better equip those in need to make responsible choices and develop economic self-sufficiency. 

    Once each quarter, members and friends of First United Methodist Garland travel to Austin Street Center on a Sunday morning to serve breakfast to the homeless.

  • Garland Area Habitat for Humanity partners with local individuals and organizations to provide safe, affordable, energy-efficient homes for low-income families in the Greater Garland area.

  • Hope Clinic exists to share the love of Jesus Christ by partnering with the local community to provide the underserved population with primary health care and resources for healthy living. 

    First United Methodist Garland provides financial support.

  • Project Transformation

    Annual summer (June, July) opportunities to encourage children thru reading. Also to support college interns as they lead children in Christian community, programming and academic skills development. 

  • Running 4 Clean Water

    Dirty water threatens lives and destroys livelihoods on a devastating scale. The goal of Running 4 Clean Water is to help provide clean, safe drinking water around the world. 

    Proceeds from this annual 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Run go to Seven Hills Global Outreach and Zion Ministries for the purpose of building water wells in Sierra Leone. 

    Sponsors include First United Methodist Church, New World United Methodist Church, Axe Memorial United Methodist Church, Buckingham United Methodist Church and the Islamic Association of North Texas (IANT) in Richardson.

  • Union

    More than just a coffee house with a bold heart for Dallas, Union is a home for a community of leaders to launch exciting ideas that cause change in our city - and the world.  

    Formerly located near SMU, Union has moved to the old parsonage of Oak Lawn United Methodist Church at the corner of Cedar Springs and Oak Lawn.
