    A Way Forward: 2019 Special General Conference

    Part 2 of a three-part series exploring the recommendation of The United Methodist Council of Bishops to address the impasse within the denomination on homosexuality. 

    Covers the 2019 Special General Conference (February 2019 in St. Louis), where this recommendation will be placed for legislative action. 

    Part 3 (November 28) addresses the question Where Do We Go from Here?

    The goal is to equip our local church community with the knowledge necessary to approach this important topic with open hearts and open minds. All are invited and encouraged to participate.

    Chef extraordinaire Jonathan Buck serves up his special annual Steak & Eggs Breakfast, open to all and still only $4.00 per plate. (For reservations, email sbuck@smu.edu by Thursday, November 29.) 

    With guest speaker Jim Troyer, long-time member of First United Methodist Garland and leader of quarterly Breakfast @ Austin Street (see below). 

    Followed by Sandwich Saturday Morning, making breakfast standwiches and packing fresh fruit for Austin Street the following morning.

    Serving breakfast for more than 300 homeless. Group meets at 5:00am on church parking lot for trip via church van. Donations of wrapped sandwiches, fresh fruit, boiled eggs, breakfast bars and bottled water appreciated.

    Collecting, organizing and distributing food for Garland neighbors in need. All invited to lend a hand.

  • An Afternoon with Eldred Marshall

    Artist-in-Residence and Associated Director of Music Ministries Dr. Eldred Marshall rings in the New Year with a solo piano recital.
